In August 2006, Laurel Elementary opened its doors to provide relief for overcrowding at schools in Davenport and Haines City. The campus, originally constructed by M.M. Parrish Construction, was designed with a permanent administration / cafeteria building with the balance of the campus being comprised of modular classroom buildings.

With portables needed elsewhere in the District and additional EHPA capacity required in area, the construction of a new 16 classroom wing and a new media/arts building was approved by the School Board of Polk County.

Upon selection by the School Board, M.M. Parrish Construction along with our design-build partner SCMH Architects of Lakeland, met with District staff to design the new spaces and develop a master plan for construction of 2 future classroom wings on the opposite side of campus.

The project broke ground in late April 2008 and was complete that December, allowing time for the District, faculty, and staff to occupy the space and be ready to welcome students into the new spaces following the Christmas break.
